How ThoughtInks designed an enterprise integration architecture that enabled a Fortune 500 Dubai retailer's initiative to reduce the time required to publish products online from 28 days to a single day.
The retailer's digital transformation initiative, Operation 1-Day, set an ambitious objective—to reduce the time required to publish a product online after a style shoot from 28 days to just one day. While product information already existed across enterprise systems, the content publishing process remained largely manual and spreadsheet-driven.
Product attributes from PLM, merchandising information from RMS, and additional content required for e-commerce were manually consolidated into Excel CAM sheets by buyers and e-commerce teams before being uploaded into Content Central. This disconnected process created several operational challenges:
The challenge was not the availability of product information—it was the lack of an integrated architecture capable of automatically validating, consolidating, transforming and distributing product content across enterprise systems.
The objective was to establish an enterprise integration platform that could automatically collect validated information from PLM and RMS, transform it into a standardized JSON format, and synchronize product content with Content Central without manual intervention.
We designed an enterprise integration architecture built on microservices and a middleware framework to automate product content synchronization between PLM, RMS and Content Central. The solution eliminated spreadsheet-based data exchange by introducing an integration layer responsible for orchestrating data extraction, validation, transformation and routing across enterprise applications.
Each application continues to own the information for which it is the system of record, while the integration layer assembles a complete product view and synchronizes content using standardized JSON interfaces. This approach reduced manual effort, improved data consistency and enabled scalable integration without impacting existing business applications.
RMS publishes product identifiers and merchandising information through scheduled synchronization, while PLM provides validated product attributes once mandatory business validations have been completed. The integration layer correlates, transforms and assembles information from both systems before publishing complete product content to Content Central.
The architecture also supports bidirectional synchronization of attribute values, ensuring master data remains consistent across enterprise systems while preserving clear ownership of business information within each application.
By separating business applications from integration responsibilities, the architecture established a reusable enterprise integration layer capable of supporting future systems without requiring changes to existing PLM, RMS or Content Central implementations.
The platform was deployed within the retailer's on-premise enterprise infrastructure and designed for high availability. Recovery objectives, backup strategies and operational monitoring were incorporated into the architecture to ensure reliable synchronization of business-critical product information.
With content sourced directly from PLM and RMS instead of a manually maintained spreadsheet, Operation 1-Day had the automated backbone it needed to hit its target.
Improved online sales and store launch decisions
Launching products on time has increased the full-price sale period by 3–4 weeks, improving inventory freshness and competitive advantage. Early online launches have also significantly informed decisions on which products are best-sellers, helping plan store launches and visual merchandising.
Buyers and concept e-commerce teams got their time back, content reached Content Central validated and consistent the first time, and the business gained a single integration layer that scales cleanly across concepts, brands and both the India and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) markets.
